The Farmer's Market - spring through fall at the downtown square

Check Out Fayetteville!

Nestled at the western edge of the magnificent Arkansas Ozarks, the historic city of Fayetteville offers a wealth of exciting opportunities for fun and adventure. In Fayetteville, there are enough exciting spectator sports, cultural events, recreation, history, shopping, dining and nightlife to keep you busy full time!

The Old Post Office is the focal point of our downtown square. This former government building, built in 1909 on the site of three previous courthouses, now houses a popular restaurant and nightclub. The Historic District on Washington and Willow Streets has some of our finest older homes, and walking tours are available at Headquarters House.

The focal point for many local activities is The Square in Fayetteville's charming downtown. It is home to unique shops, restaurants, historic buildings and modern offices. The dazzling display of colorful flowers in the square gardens, carefully tended from season to season, makes this a delightful place to visit. Situated on the northern edge of town, Lake Fayetteville, a lovely one hundred and ninety-four acre park, offers a host of recreational opportunities. Boating, fishing, softball and other sports, plus hiking, picnicking and more, are just minutes away.

Northwest Arkansas Mall is the largest and newest shopping facility in Northwest Arkansas. A wide variety of national stores, specialty shops and food venues ensure a pleasurable experience. In May and October, visitors come from near and far to shop more than thirty major Arts and Crafts Fairs, including the famous War Eagle Fair. These shows feature the work of some of the nation's finest artisans.

The Old Main, completed in 1875, is a twin-towered brick building that is a stately landmark. It housed the first classes taught at the university. Today, it contains the beautifully restored Giffels Auditorium and historic displays, as well as the administrative offices of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. The Arkansas Razorbacks are perennial Southeastern Conference contenders in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, and other sports. The university's men's and women's sports programs and athletic facilities rival those of any school in the nation.

For outdoor activities, visit beautiful Beaver Lake, which boasts more than five hundred miles of shoreline. It is a popular spot for boating, water-skiing, fishing, swimming and camping. Devil's Den is a carefully preserved state park, just a short drive from Fayetteville. It is situated in the beautiful Boston Mountains, and offers camping, caving, hiking, fishing, canoeing and other outdoor activities. Lake Wedington is a scenic little forest lake, located just fifteen miles west of Fayetteville. It has picnic areas, cabins, camping and hiking, fishing, boating and swimming.

Take part in May in Springfest, or in October, in Autumnfest. These old-fashioned community celebrations usher in the change of seasons with food, music, parades, arts and crafts and a roster of special events. The North Arkansas Symphony plays from September through May. This outstanding seventy-piece orchestra has entertained Northwest Arkansas audiences for more than thirty years.

Real Estate Tips
Cosmetic Improvements >The Sniff Test

The sense of smell is a powerful motivator. When prospective buyers walk into a house, they respond more positively if they smell freshly baking oatmeal cookies instead of the lingering odor of a household pet.

As the homeowner, you may not notice odors that visitors are aware of as soon as they walk in the door. When your house is for sale, ask a friend or neighbor to give it a "sniff test". If there are offensive odors in your home, how do you get rid of them?

There are a few simple solutions--giving the floors and walls a good scrubbing, using the old vanilla-on-the-light-bulb trick, plugging in an essential oil diffuser and throwing out the dog's special chair. You can temporarily declare your home a "no smoking" zone. You may need professional help for cleaning carpets and drapes or deodorizing walls and wood floors. Your real estate agent will be able to provide you with a list of cleaning services which can assist you in making your home smell clean and fresh.
